Hello 7th graders, Ms. D, and any other reader!

Today in class we went over our labs and what we were supposed to include in our conclusion. Also we got the labs back graded. After this we talked about Newton's firs law challenge. What we actually did that day is discover and better understand what Newton's first law states. We got these back graded too.

For the second part of our class we went over our homework that had momentum math problems. One of those problems would look something like this:

1. A rock with a mass of 5 kg was thrown by an athlete at a speed of 20 m/s, what is the rock's momentum?

Formula: MOMENTUM=MASS x VELOCITY (also known as p=mv)

Plug: p= 5 kg x 20 m/s (important here is not to forget the units!)

Chug: p= 100 kg-m/s (the units that momentum is measured in is "kg-m/s", you say it kilograms meters per second)

A little more challenging problem would look like this:

2. A toy car has a mass off 1kg, and it is moving at a speed of 10 m/s, it hits another car with the same mass which it attaches to and continues moving. What is the momentum of the car before it collided and what is the speed of both cars after they collide?

-Question 1 (What is the momentum of the car before it collided?)

Formula: p=mv

Plug: p= 1 kg x 10 m/s

Chug: p= 10 kg-m/s

-Question 2 (What is the speed of both cars after they collide?)

The speed of both cars after they collide is 5 m/s because since both cars have the same mass than the speed that the first car hit the second car with will be evenly split between the two. This can happen only when the cars have the same mass.

Our homework is another paper full of wonderful momentum problems.

To finish up this post i would like to encourage everyone in my class to start a tradition and everytime you are the scribe to put a quote of someone we are studying now such as Sir Isaac Netown, Stephen Hawking and many more. THE NEXT SRIBE IS REZA.

“No great discovery was ever made without a bold guess” Sir Isaac Newton

  1. Hey Cip!!!
I really liked the idea that you put in examples of momemtum math questions. I also enjoyed reading your blog because you expained what we covered in class!
I just have two recommendations. One is that you could have put in a little more color because the whole scribe post would be more colorful and maybe it would catch someones attention more quickly. Another comment is that you could have written down the actual questions and answers to the momentum math sheet we went over in class.
All in all, I enjoyed reading your blog!!

  2. Hi Cip
I liked te pictures that you put on your blog post. It was a great idea to put some of the momentum questions.

And by the way, I was the first one to put a quote by the persone we are studing.

  3. Hey, I'm Elijah , a student from Sargent Park. Your Post is very well done, and it looks like it helped your classmates. But you should put like colours to make your post stand out more. Keep up the great work !

Oh, yeah this is my latest post and it was made in January 13, 2010.:

  4. Hey Cip,
I enjoyed the thing that you wrote some of the momentum sheet's problems. I also like the phrase that you put at the end of the post. You may could have used some color in your writing and you could also have put some more pictures.

  5. Love the idea of a quote at the end!!!

  6. Hey!! I'm Elaine, a student from Sargent Park. Your post was very well done. Your explanation was very easy to understand and I like how you used pictures to make your post pop. From this post, I learned the formula for momentum and how to find it. Next time, you should use some colour but other than that, awesome job.

Well heres a link to the posts I have made, I hope you are able to comment back:

  7. Great post, there a little mistakes in wording here and there but other than that good job the way you descirbed how to find the answer to the question was really good, I now now how to calculate momentum awesome job

  8. Cip - Your post is very informative. I love the picture you start with and too bad the inclusion of a quote did not work. I think I will make that a requirement next time. You could have included a bit more color - as it would break up all of the words a bit and make things stand out as Iva wrote. Labels are missing. Overall, nice work!
