Final Reflection Post, 4th Quarter Blogging

During this quarter we were expected to write a scribe post, a reflection post and a comment to 6th, 7th, or 8th grade blogs each week! We had to write three minor comments on the seventh grade blog, three minor comments to the eighth grade blog, and two minor comments on the sixth grade blog. I enjoyed blogging this quarter as much as the other quarters. It was interesting and anybody absent could really see and underdstand what he or she missed that day/those days. I enjoyed blogging the most this quarter because we were already very familiar with this task! I didn't like blogging for a similar reason as for all the other quarters. It was because, even though I did write everything on Blogger first, it still gave me issues with pictures and it didn't want to listen to me after a couple of tries. The easy part about blogging was that we had to write only minor comments and I think that it was more organized when we had to write one comment each week, because earlier some people would always wait for the last minute to write their comments. The only part that was challenging this quarter was when we had to include an explanation of how what we did in class, that day we were scribing for, had to do with every day life. It wasn't extremely hard but it was something different and we had to think about that a little more, and some students forgot to include it in their scribe post. All in all this years blogging went well!

Science Class on Friday May 7th and Tuesday May 11

Hello seventh graders!

Due to M.A.P examinations on Friday, we didn't do much in class. During class we watched a few videos and we just relaxed and had fun because everyone came at different times. We watched our K'nex video once again and then we watched other interesting and fun movies about: the volcano erruption, the new satellite launched and the enormous boulder in Norway! We also had to show Ms. D that we finished highlighting the packet that had given to us on Thursday. We also got reminded about our next project! It is called: Cell Project and it is due Thursday May 13th. The directions are on Moodle and are under May 10-16th.

The link to our Science Moodle site is:
http://zagreb.ceesa.net/course/view.php?id=105

At the beginning of Tuesday's class we talked about the Cell project and Ms. D made sure that we understood everything. Then we got back our Superhero's that were outside on the bulletin board. We then went over all the different parts of Animal and Plant cells once again and then we colored in Plant and Animal cells and we learned which parts are which! After that activity we wrote some more notes in our notebooks and Kat, Viktor and Noam took notes on Google Docs. The links to each of them are:
Kat's notes
https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0Acp6r0zJBnnzZGhtNjNjOW1fOHBiZGZtOGdy&hl=en&pli=1
Viktor's notes
https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0Acp6r0zJBnnzZGhtNjNjOW1fOHBiZGZtOGdy&hl=en&pli=1
I couldn't put up Noam's notes because I wasn't invited to her notes yet.

Today's notes were about Microscopes. We learned what microscopes are, and they are instruments that make small objects look bigger! We then wrote down:
Simple Microscope:
-only one lens is used

Compoung Microscope:
-uses more than one lens
-magnifies more!

Electron microscope:
-usess electrons
-amazing image - Resolution - sharpness or clearness and clarity of image

Later on, instead of writing and copying from the board, we were passed out a packet about microscopes. This packet is also on Moodle. It is under the same category as the directions to the Cell Project!

All in all, in these two classes we covered more about parts of cells and we learned about microscopes as well! These two concepts that we learned more about relate to everyday life because first of all, cells are parts of human beings and we are human beings all our life! Everything we see that is alive has cells in it! Microscopes relate to everyday life because with them we discovered many new ideas and we will continue to in the future!!!

The next scribe is.... CiPrIaN!!!! :=)

Iva's Relection Post

Our blogging criteria was different this quarter than the blogging criteria from the second quarter. During the third quarter we had to write 1 blog post and minor 4 comments, containing 2 on our blog, one on the eighth grade blog and one on a Canadian blog. One thing I didn't like about commenting was that on the eighth grade blog when I wrote a comment, our teacher did not get a notification that I commented, and I had to comment again. I wrote quite a lot so that made me frustrated. This time I had no problem with scribing for the blog post because I typed right into blogger instead of typing on a word document and then copy-pasting off of the word document. All in all I enjoyed blogging this quarter more than the previous quarter!

Scribe post for Friday 5th and Tuesday 9th

Last Friday we went over our homework that was due, which was a math sheet including work and power problems. The questions and answers to the math problems were:

1. How much work is done to move a box if the force applied to that box is 65.7N and it is moved a distance of 12.1 m?
W= Fd
W= 65.7N × 12.1 m
W= 794.97 J

2. If 75 J of work are used to move a motorcycle 3.64 m, what is the amount of force applied to that motorcycle?
F= W ÷ d
F= 75 J ÷ 3.64 m
F= 20.60N

3. If I have used 0.37 N on a marble and it has a work amount of 0.16 J, what is the distance that marble has gone?
d= W ÷ F
d= 0.16 J ÷ 0.37N
d= 0.43 m

4. A skateboarder does 438.84 J of work. If this occurs over a period of 21.8 seconds, how much power does that skateboarder use?
P= W ÷ t
P= 438.84 J ÷ 21.8 s
P= 20.13

5. A construction worker uses a running saw that weighs 35.28 N on a board that is 3.6 m long. If the power output of the saw is 6.35 W, what was the amount of time the saw was used?
W= Fd
W= 35.28N × 3.6 m
W= 127.01 J

t= W ÷ P
t= 127.01 J ÷ 6.35 W
t= 20s

6. How much work is applied to your backpack if 11W of power are used for 681 seconds?
W= P × t
W= 11W × 681 s
W= 7491 J

7. a. A soccer ball weighs 17.3N and can be kicked a distance of 7.5 m. What is the work applied to the soccer ball?
b. If the ball travels that distance in 2.4 seconds, what is the soccer player’s power?

a. W= Fd
W= 17.3N × 7.5 m
W= 129.75 J

b. P= W ÷ t
P= 129.75N ÷ 2.4s
P= 54.06 W

8. a. If a car’s motor weighs 12289.7 N and works at 530893.44 J, what is the distance the car has been moved?
b. Using the above number for work if the car is used for 15 minutes (!!!), how much power has the car used?

a. d= W ÷ F
d= 530,893.44 J ÷ 12,289.7 N
d= 43.2 m

b. P= W ÷ t
P= 530,893.44 J ÷ 900 s
P= 589.88 W

Afterwards, we were handed a project or visual presentation in relation to simple machines. The directions of the visual presentation are on Moodle and the attachment to the directions is under the 15th March-21st March called, Simple Machines Visual Representation Directions. The link to the Science page on Moodle is:

Every group was assigned one of the six simple machines. The groups are:
Pulley - Gio & Julia
Wheel & Axle - Viktor & Alix
Lever - Erik, Reza & Vance
Inclined Plane - Laura & Antonia
Screw - Cip & Bryce
Wedge - Kat & Emilie; Fabi & Iva

On Friday Ms. D Also reminded us that there will be a quiz coming up soon but it will surely not be until Thursday 18th. Our homework was to Finish our Superhero’s by Tuesday. That was all we covered in class on Friday, March 8th.

On Tuesday’s class we began by shortly and basically presenting our Superheroes that were due. All of the Superheroes looked terrific and interesting and so Ms. D announced that she will be hanging then outside in the hallway. After this we went to the upper computer lab and complete an activity Mr. Hays had asked us to check out and play around with. The website we explored was about Gizmos and it was called, Ants on a Slope! We did not only play with the website, we had a packet that we had to complete regarding friction and inclined planes! We had some hypotheses to answer and other activities! This is what we covered in class Friday 5th and Tuesday the 9th.

On the right is an idea of how Ants on a Slope looked like!

The next scribe is Antonia!!! :)

Iva's Blog Reflection

Our first blogging adventure passed quite well, in my opinion! What I liked about this blog was that it was much more organized than Word Press. It was very colorful and simple to use as well. We could also upload pictures, videos and links very easily when writind our scribe post. I think that this blog will be helpful for absent students who are sick or not at school. All of us wrote blogs which had included all of the things we covered in class. My least favorite part about scribing was that when I wrote my scribe post on Word and then copy-pasted what I wrote on the blog, what I wrote didn't turn out the way I made it look like on Word. For example, I spaced out every paragraph but Blogger squezzed it all together. A second thing I disliked about Blogger was that when we commented, we couldn't upload pictures and we had to copy-paste links to videos and the person who wished to watch the link had to copy-paste the link into the URL. That was a part about Blogger that I disliked. All in all I think that we should continue to use Blogger because it is useful and interesting to be part of!!!

Science Class Friday 14

Hello Seventh Graders!
This is the scribe post for Friday 15, 2010! At the beginning of class we reviewed our homework which was to answer two random questions.
The two random questions were:
1. Where is Marianas Trench? In what Ocean is it located and how deep is it?
2. What is the capital of Bolivia?

The answers to the questions above were:
1. Marianas Trench is located in the Pacific Ocean – Challenger Deep is the deepest point of it and it is 11,033 meters below sea level.
2. There are actually two capitals of Bolivia. One is Sucre and the other one is La Pas.
Secondly, we got back our homework that was due Thursday 14. The homework we got back was our graph and paragraph on another class’s data for the ping pong ball. This homework was worth 10 points.
Another task we covered was beginning our lab on FRICTION! Ms. D introduced the lab to us and she went over the purpose question, the hypothesis, and rubric as well as the conclusion and evaluation that we are going to be expected to write. The lab is called, Investigating the Factors that Affect Friction.
Just a reminder that we have homework due Tuesday 19! The homework is to graph the Red class’s data for the Tennis Ball and write a paragraph about it!!!
Well, those are the things we covered in class Friday 15.
The next scribe is AnToNiA!!!!
